On inspection of the existing roller shutter with a wicket gate. The roller shutter door was in poor condition. The original roller shutter also lacked a safety brake and was not deemed safe to use.

Question: Is a roller shutter with a wicket gate a better choice than a roller shutter with a separate personal door next to it?

Roller Shutter With A Wicket Gate

Answer: The wicket gate option is generally used when there is no other space to install a personnel door. For ease of use, a steel personnel door in the wall would be better. Click through to this blog to explore this question further.

Also, the original wicket gate was not an emergency exit door. There was no emergency exit anywhere else, so this did not comply with fire safety rules. To comply we installed a panic bar on the inside of the wicket gate. An external locking handle set provided security and access.

Wicket Gates must be pushed back onto a safety interlock switch before the door will operate. This safety feature prevents the door from being raised while the gate is in place.  For more information about how Wicket Gates work, click here.

This roller shutter has a flange-mounted motor because it is fitted between walls. It could have been face-fixed to the opening, but the customer wanted it to match the existing door.

Like many industrial roller shutter doors, this model operates on 3-phase power with push-button control.
